In Search of Oldton

It's possible that the coming of the motorway did for Oldton.

Mazzy's mum was the first to note that a long line of highway lighting was beginning to encroach on the town in the 1970s. Whether it eventually cut straight through the place, or simply swept everyone past it, the result would have been the same.

Coincidentally, Mazzy's grandfather was the station master at Oldton train station. One presumes that the demise of the railway went hand in hand with the arrival of the motorway.

Our roads are choc-a-bloc with massive container lorries, and our railtracks have been ripped up. Inside everyone one of those containers could be a little bit of Oldton that has been hauled away.
